Lloyd Specialised Coatings improves safety in JJ Richards truck servicing shed

When the floor coating inside a JJ Richards truck servicing shed began to break down, it created more than a presentation issue. The existing coating in the mechanic pit was deteriorating, leaving the surface slippery, uneven and potentially dangerous for staff working in and around the area.

Mechanic pits are high-use, high-risk environments. They need to withstand regular foot traffic, vehicle servicing activity, moisture, oils, grease and general workshop wear. Once the coating system starts to fail, the surface can quickly become unsafe and difficult to maintain.

Lloyd Specialised Coatings was engaged to restore the pit and provide a safer, more durable surface for ongoing use.

The team began by removing all existing coatings from the floor, taking the surface back to a sound substrate before any new system was applied. This preparation was a critical part of the project, ensuring the new coating would properly bond and perform in the demanding workshop environment.

Once the surface was clean and prepared, the team applied a three-coat, two-pack coating system designed to provide strength, durability and long-term protection. Added grit was incorporated into the system to improve slip resistance and make the pit safer for workers moving through the area.

The result was a cleaner, more durable and safer mechanic pit that could better support the daily demands of a busy truck servicing shed.

By removing the failing coating and replacing it with a purpose-applied, slip-resistant system, Lloyd Specialised Coatings helped JJ Richards improve workplace safety while extending the life and usability of the pit.
