Lloyd Specialised Coatings extends the working life of JBS Beef City tallow tanks

At JBS Beef City, the ongoing performance of their tallow tanks is essential to keeping operations moving safely and efficiently. Exposed to high operating temperatures and harsh external conditions, these tanks need a protective coating system that can withstand both internal service demands and the elements over the long term.

Lloyd Specialised Coatings was engaged to prepare and coat the tallow tanks, with the clear objective of extending their working life and improving long-term protection.

To carry out the work safely and effectively, the tanks were first fully encapsulated. This allowed the Lloyd Specialised Coatings team to sandblast the tank surfaces in a controlled environment, containing dust and debris while ensuring the substrate could be properly prepared for coating. Surface preparation was a critical stage of the project, helping to remove existing deterioration and create the right profile for the new coating system to bond effectively.

While the tanks remained encapsulated, the team applied a three-coat epoxy system by spray application. The coating system was selected for its ability to withstand elevated tank temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius, while also providing durable protection against exposure to the elements.

The result was a robust, high-performance protective coating system designed to help the tallow tanks continue operating reliably for years to come.

By combining controlled encapsulation, thorough sandblasting and a carefully selected epoxy coating system, Lloyd Specialised Coatings helped JBS Beef City extend the working life of their assets and reduce the risk of premature deterioration.
