Millmerran Power Station battery storage rooms

Lloyd Specialised Coatings prepares Millmerran Power Station battery rooms for long-term protection

Lloyd Specialised Coatings was engaged to complete specialised coating works for two battery storage rooms at Millmerran Power Station.

The existing batteries were due for renewal, and the existing floor coating had suffered damage from battery acid spills over many years of operation. The client required a high-performance coating system that would protect the concrete substrate and withstand potential future acid exposure once the new batteries were installed.

The team at Lloyd Specialised Coatings removed the existing coating and repaired the damaged concrete to restore the surface before applying a new chemical-resistant coating system. This included:

  • A 2-part epoxy sealer to the floor and coving
  • A 3mm trowel-on coating to the vertical coving
  • A 3mm self-levelling Epoxy Novolac coating to the floor
  • An Epoxy Novolac corrosion-resistant coating across the coving and floor

The completed system provides durable, long-term protection for a critical operational environment, helping the client prepare the rooms for battery replacement while reducing the risk of future acid-related damage. With stronger chemical resistance and improved asset protection, the coating system is fit for purpose in a demanding industrial setting and will help support safe, more reliable operation over time.
